Dutch record producer and superstar DJ Tiësto graced the decks last night at Montreal’s premier VIP nightclub, Time Supper Club.

A homemade sign held over head declaring: “Tiësto is My God”, swayed and bounced along to the beat of the electric waves being shot out of the night club sound system as fans danced themselves into a state of stupefied euphoria. Among the first DJs to break out of relative anonymity and cult followings to be elevated to the status of major stadium performer, Tiësto is deserving of all his accolades. Not only is this guy a fantastic and original DJ, he is such a sweetie! That adorable grin endears the man to one’s heart even without that killer back beat to get your heart racing. Put it all together with a great light show and a loving crowd, and the result is one fabulous night of great music and positive vibes.

While the charming DJ was set to play from 11-2am, leaving a good hour to spare for partying it up with the crowd, the Montreal gang squad would have none of it. They stormed the club and cut his set short under the pretence that the club was over capacity. Perhaps just bitter that they weren’t invited, the cops succeeded in bringing an end to the night as guests were forced to evacuate the club, leaving their drinks and often coats behind. While they were supposed to be able to re-enter as the Montreal Police conducted an official headcount, by the time the club was empty it was well after 2am and most party-goers were just grateful that Tiësto’s set was only cut short by less than 1/2hr.

While the club owner argued with the Police to the brink of getting arrested himself, he apologizes to guests for the inconvenience that should never have brought a rather anti-climatic end to the evenings festivities (no over-capacity charges were laid).  All the same, people had a great time, and Tiësto is likely to return to this favourite Montreal venue next time he’s in town.
